A brief biography
Michael Igara Nmecha, born on February 14, 1981, in Aba, Abia State, Nigeria, at Ndubisi Hospital, comes from a family of notable heritage with roots in both Abia and Imo States (Chief and Lolo Igara Nmecha of Ameke Abiriba Abia State/Chief and Lolo Michael Ihemeje Asinobi of Obazu Mbeiri Mbaitoli).
As the eldest of three siblings, his early education spanned the vibrant 1980s at Children Welfare Nursery School and Constitution Crescent Primary School in Aba, before advancing to Ngwa High School, where he completed his secondary education from 1992 to 1998.
Nmecha's academic journey continued at the Federal University of Technology Owerri, Nigeria, where he pursued and earned a Bachelor of Engineering (B.Eng.) in Agricultural Engineering and a Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Pollution Control in Environmental Technology, which is now known as Environment Management.
Despite facing numerous challenges, Nmecha's resilience and determination led him to gain valuable experience through roles in various organizations, including the Ministry of Agriculture in Abeokuta, Ogun State, FADAMA 1-3, Imo State Agricultural Development Program, the Federal Road Safety Corps, TARI-GLO Ventures, the Independent National Electoral Commission, and others.
Since 2012, Nmecha has contributed his expertise to the Public Procurement Research Centre, alongside pursuing a Doctorate degree in Environmental Engineering with a focus on Agricultural Bioresources Engineering.
His appointment as a Lecturer in the Department of Environmental Management underscores his commitment to academic excellence and his practical approach to problem-solving.
Nmecha's personal life is as fulfilling as his professional journey. He is married to Mrs. Ugochi Igara Nmecha, a Lay Reader, and together they are devoted members of the Anglican Church. They are blessed with three children, Princess Michaela Uzoamaka Michael Igara Nmecha, Princess Harmony Onyinyeomachukwu Michael Igara Nmecha,and Princess Chibuchi Purity Michael Igara Nmecha born on February 2nd, 2020,February 7th, 2022, and 3rd May 2024 respectively.
Beyond his family life, Nmecha actively participates in his church as an Usher(Former), Chorister and Bible Study Facilitator and is involved in various religious and community organizations, including the Bible Society of Nigeria, Boys Bridge of Nigeria Owerri Division, Anglican Christian Men Fellowship, and Full Gospel Businessmen Fellowship.
Nmecha's hobbies are diverse, ranging from sports such as soccer, table tennis, and swimming, to intellectual pursuits like scrabble, chess, and monopoly, alongside video gaming, internet surfing, reading, traveling, driving, and climbing.
His dynamic personality and openness to new ideas underscore his belief in the power of positivity, flexibility, and hard work. Nmecha's life philosophy centres on making a silent yet impactful difference, underpinned by his deep faith and commitment to seeing possibilities in every challenge.
